Making a Database - 7 - Queries using Totals

It is possible to make calculations of number fields using queries. 

These totals can be:

• A sum - the total of all the numbers
• An average - the average of a set of numbers
• The maximum or minimum value

Example - Average

1. Click Queries, New, Design View:

2.  Click Add

3. Drag down the field height.  Only one field is ever shown for a totals calculation.

4. The total row does not usually show.  So click on View, Totals.

5. Click on the drop down box and choose average.

6.  When you run the query, the average is then worked out:
