JFD Art - 5 - Running a query on a single field

John would like an up-to-date list of watercolour paintings to send to his customers who collect watercolours.

STEP 1 - Create a new query

• Click on Queries
• New
• Design View
• OK

STEP 2 - ADD THE APPROPRIATE TABLES

The artist information and the painting information are requried for this search so we need to ADD both tables

STEP 3 - SELECT THE APPROPRIATE INFORMATION FOR THE SEARCH

In this search we are trying to find watercolour pictures - someone who collected these paintings would want to know the name of the artist, the painting title and the value.

• Choose the appropriate fields from the list

STEP 4 - ENTER THE SEARCH CRITERIA

• We want to find watercolours
• The criteria for the search is watercolour (watercolours would not find a match because the Painting Table spells watercolour without an "s")  - if you get the spelling wrong you WILL NOT get a match.  A human being could recognise these words as being similar enough to be the same idea - a computer cannot!
• Remove the tick from "show" in the media column - we don't need the word watercolour on our printout

STEP 5 - RUN AND SAVE THE QUERY

• Click on QUERY, RUN or click the icon
• Save your query as Watercolours in stock
• You should have something similar to this below
