JFD Art - 4 - Creating Relationships

We now have 2 tables and have identified a common key (ArtistID).  Now it is time to join the tables together using these keys.

STEP 1 - Start the relationships tool  

• Click on Tools, Relationships
• Click on Artist, then click the Add button
• Click on Painting, then click the Add button
• Click on Close

STEP 2 - Relationships

• Click on ArtistID in the artist table (the primary key) and drag to ArtistID (the foreign key) in the painting table
• Then click on Enforce Referential Integrity
• Click the Create button

• This will create the relationship

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you get error messages

• check that the field type is the same for ArtistID in both tables
• Check that the Artist and Painting tables are closed

Well done!  You are now ready to start using the database that you have created!
